SnOwFlaKEs

SnOwFlaKEs
by Kelly Hoernig for Linnie Blooms

The snow is finally here and I love it. It creates such a winter wonderland of everything transforming to white and wintery. The air changes, the moonlight makes all sparkle and I can get lost in thoughts dreaming of this special season. So, that is my inspiration for this piece, snowflakes of all sizes and shapes.  I worked with Linnie Blooms shapes such as the long blank, hearts, banners, a pocket and a rectangle. You will need to gather stuff from here and there to add to the charm of this little treasure. There are buttons, a piece of ribbon, a candy cane of wire and a couple pieces of scrap batting. Have fun and make this delightful snowman your own.

I used DecoArt Americana acrylics in Camel, Sea Glass, Terra Coral and Violet Haze to create this exact look. I like to spritz water onto each shape before applying a watery coat of color. It allows the paint to move and gives you a bit of dimension and texture without the work. I pulled out my favorite snowflake stencil to add some flair to the background and the heart. The stencil is applied in the same color, it only appears darker because it is more concentrated. Because I wanted to add depth, I used fabri-tac and another piece of batting glued to the backside of the pocket. It makes it stand up just enough giving you the look of things being filled in it. I then used fabri-tac to glue on all the additional elements.

Can’t wait to see what creative twist you put on this inspiration – hope you will share it when you are finished! Enjoy and Happy Holidays from me to you!!

Art Journal Cover

Happy Friday, crafty people!  Marfa (that's me ;-)) is back to show you another fun Mixed Media project using Linnie Bloom's canvas shapes.   This was sooooo much fun to do!  It is the reason why I consider myself a Mixed Media artist.  It encompasses every single craft that I can think of right now.  This project is a Design Team project forLinnie Blooms.  I used several canvas shapes that you can find at the Linnie Blooms store.  I used a birda heartpockets and pennants .  Canvas is so cool to decorate because you can do almost anything to it and it will take it!  I inked, I embroidered and I glued to my heart's content. This cover is so yummuylicious.  I can't wait to make more.   Scroll down to see a short video that's going to show you some cool details.

Here's the video:

~Lovin my Linnie Blooms~

I finally had some free time to play with more of my Linnie Blooms Mixed Media Canvas shapes!
My new favorite shapes are the pennants or some call them banners.  I also love the little houses or arrows.  I have seen these used as both, which is awesome since you already get an option before you even get started to play.

$2.99 pack of 3

Here are just a few of my latest projects.  The long blank I actually made while visiting the Linnie Blooms Shop.  I made it during a class with the owner Linda Barutha.  The book was just a cover I did for fun.. I used a heart and a mini blank on that cover.   The mini canvas piece was fun to make.  I knew I wanted a picture of my youngest daughter and a few of these bits and pieces of things I loved.  I used 4 Linnie Blooms shapes on the canvas wall hanging, 2 on the book, and 7 on the long blank.  You can add the mixed media canvas shapes to scrapbook layouts and cards too.  What would you do with a few of these shapes?

Meet the Designer - Jessica Kephart

Hello there sweet friends! My name is Jessica Kephart, I have a beautiful 3 year old Son, Mason, whom I utterly adore! He has such a passionate and caring spirit he amazes me every single day! It is truly because of him that I feel compelled to create, and he was the reason I started along this fabulous and fun journey of paper crafting! He is my inspiration and I am one lucky Mama!!
I am passionate about helping others where I am able, and I think that it is very important for my little guy to see that in his Mom. I love the feeling that I get from knowing that in some small way, I can contribute to easing someone else's pain, or bring a little smile just because or during hard times. I do struggle with emotional detachment from some of the cases that I work on. It's the hardest thing in the world, I've found, to continue on with your own happiness when you know that someone else (many more) is suffering. I try very hard to take that knowledge, and use it to not take advantage of the things that I do have. Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me and my little family! This has been such an incredible journey for me, and I have made some fabulous friends that I know I will have for a lifetime and that means so much to me! xoxoxoxJessica
