Maiden of the Lake Mixed Media Hanging

Come along with me and create your own fantasy beach at a lake in your dreams....

Summer is in full swing and I'm still rejoicing with every warm, sunny day!  Even though we may be inside working on projects using the awesome Linnie Blooms products, we can still take a little fantasy trip to the beach and mix it up a bit....

Painting "freeform style" on Linnie Blooms canvas products is a natural choice...and that is just what I did to create this mystical background for the hanging.  Of course, I always have to add inky techniques, too...and then a little paper tearing....embellishing....something to do with birds....

Okay, okay.  This turned into a Mixed Media project.

So....let's go play!

Materials used:

Linnie Blooms: 5" x 11" Long Blank Canvas, Angel Stencil/Mask

Impression Obsession Rubber Stamps: Butterfly Kisses (B8122), Butterfly 4 (D7783)

Clearsnap: Clear Embossing powder, heat tool
                  ColorBox® Classic Pigment Inkpad (Frost White, Sweet Melon, Antique Pewter, Black)
                  Archival® Dye Inkpad (Wicked Black)
                  Top Boss® Clear Embossing Inkpad
                  Art Daubers

Beacon Adhesives: Fabri-Tac® Permanent Adhesive

Acrylic Paint, Glazes and Mediums of your choice 
Note: I used a combination of Plaid Folk Art Acrylic Paint (white) and Decorator Glazes (Aqua, Bluebell) but these specific paint colors and types may not be current names.

Pages of printed text torn from old books
Decorative paper scraps
Cardboard scraps
Cardstock scraps (grey, black)
Black eyelash yarn scraps (or other yarn, doll hair, etc scraps of your choice)
Ephemera of your choice: ribbon lace, feathers, etc
Mini craft clothespins or other clips
Paint brush
Color pencil
Markers
Iron, 2 non-stick mats

Instructions:

Squeeze a dime-size dollop of white, blue and aqua paint directly onto the blank canvas. Distribute the paint over the entire canvas, lightly blending and thinning with water as needed; dry completely. Repeat on reverse side, if desired; dry. Place canvas on one non-stick mat; place second mat on top and iron on a low-medium setting until canvas lies flat and most wrinkles and ridges are gone.

Trace the angel shape on cardboard; cut out. Using the dauber, apply white ink over entire shape; heat with heat gun to dry. Dab Sweet Melon over head; dab pewter over entire dress area. Using DPT, apply black, using pad edges to create a geometric pattern of your choice. Sprinkle on clear embossing powder; heat. Draw eyes and mouth with marker; press clear embossing inkpad over entire shape, sprinkle on more powder and heat again.

Glue ephemera of your choice onto angel, as shown. Hand tear paper scraps; glue angel and remaining ephemera onto canvas.

Stamp butterfly in Wicked Black on black yardstick scrap, color with color pencils, cut out and attach. Stamp phrase in white on grey cardstock scrap, hand tear and attach. Add ribbon trim and clothespins to hang.

May Challenge - April showers bring May flowers...

Happy Wednesday! Today I want to share my creation using the Linnie Blooms Bloom Stencil and Mask. I used the stencil to create a layered flower for the cover of this simple gift journal.

I took four 12x 6 sheets of craft paper folded them in half (to create 6x6)
I stacked them on one another in order to create the writing area of the journal.
I added a 6x6 patterned paper for the cover. Then I attached the flower and leaves I created with the Linnie bloom mask.
I then punched holes at the top below the folds and used black fiber to create a binding.
I added a sentiment, a button, some liquid pearls... Voila!


This is a simple but beautiful gift that I really enjoyed making!

I will be traveling abroad in the upcoming year and knew an artistic luggage tag for me and my travel companions would be a great Christmas gift to get them ready to go. So, I picked some of my favorite colors, a couple great canvas shapes from Linnie Blooms, a few stencils and went to work.

I loved how it came out and when wrapped with a Tour Guide of Paris, I know my companions will love it too! Simple yet elegant, now that’s the way I like to work!

Meet the Designers - Kelly Starsky

Being a mom to 4, wife to 1, dog-mom to 2, pediatric physical therapist, jewelry/bead artist, pathological picture-taker, Girl Scout troop leader, un-paid chauffeur, painter, chocolate chip cookie monster, Sunday school teacher, and one crafty chick means I am busy or crazy, (or maybe a little of both). Scrapbooking (and all of my artsy passions) let me bring all of these layers of my life together.  And then, I have a reason to escape to my craft dungeon too.

I describe my style as “a little bit of everything”.  Sometimes it might look flowery, sometimes vintage, sometimes shabby, sometimes full of layers, and sometimes clean and simple.  It often includes LOTS of photos.  Oh, and I have a passion for purple (ever since I was 7 and I had a purple shag rug and posters of Shaun Cassidy and the Fonz on my wall).

Meet the Designers - Rochelle Spears

Happy Weekend!  Today I would like to start introducing you to my design team.  They are a great, diverse group of girls and I know you are going to love getting to know them and seeing the awesome projects they come up with using my new products.  So, first off is Rochelle Spears.

Hello! My name is Rochelle Spears.  After 15 years of Real Estate, I "retired" in 2010 and became a SAHM!! I have 5 children (24, 20, 14, 7, and 5).  I have a wonderful husband who supports my craft to the fullest!  I have been scrapbooking since 2003 and I just can't get enough of it! I love product... the smell of new paper... I love seeing the creation in my mind come alive on my paper! I love putting the final touches on my layouts and the biggest love of all... is watching my husband pull out my scrapbooks when guests come over! :)   I don’t really have a set style... I love bright colors, shabby chic, messy and playful layouts and sometimes love to just go simple and clean.  Besides my family and scrapbooking, you will find me traveling, reading or watching Netflix! I love coffee in the morning, Peach Ice Tea during the day and chocolate at night.  This is me, Rochelle. :)
