Altered Wooden Clothes Pins

I saw these cute little canvas leaves and was inspired to make some autumnal themed clothes pins. These autumnal clothes pins can be used for various decorative purposes. They can be clipped on lampshades / drapes for a fun home decor accent or used as a table decoration as a place setting name card holder for your guests. If a magnet is attached to the back, they can be decorative and functional.

Here's a step by step of how I did it.

Directions:
1. Prepare to Paint:
Protect your work surface & wear gloves. Place the canvas leaves on your craft matte or newspaper. Mist the leaves with 3-4 autumnal colors. With your finger, blend the colors together so they absorb into the weave of the fabric. I worked with all paint colors simultaneously. Remember to color the back side of each leaf as well. Set aside to dry.

2. Color Clothes Pins: Attach washi tape to both sides of each wooden clothes pin. Carefully trim away excess tape with scissors and firmly press all edges securely.
 3. Assemble Bows: Cut a strip of fabric about 1.25in x 4inches in length. Find the center of the fabric strip. Pinch and twist one side of the fabric to the back and use a piece of wire to cinch the center of the bow twisting the wire to secure it. Trim the ends of the fabric if needed. Tie a small bow using jute or baker's twine.

4. Detail the Leaves: When the leaves are thoroughly dry, take each leaf and fold it in half to the stem pressing firmly with your fingers. The stiffened canvas will hold the gentle crease and the fold will appear to be the vein of the leaf giving it a more realistic appearance.

5. Embellish Clothes Pins: Use a hot glue gun to attach the fabric bow to the end of the wooden clothes pin. Next, glue a leaf in the center of the fabric bow. Finally, glue a twine bow on the leaf and embellish it with a button.

TIP: Since I have accumulated many sprays and mists, I make a sample card for each color by spraying a mini tag and attaching it to a jump ring. Then, I can refer to the tags to help me quickly select the right colors for my project. To help me find the bottle on the shelf, I write the brand & color on the back of the tag.

Fall Table Centerpiece

Hello and Happy Fall!!!

I just decorated my house full of Fall decor and had to add a special handmade crafty piece.  So today, I'm sharing this awesome table centerpiece I made using the Linnie Blooms Canvas Mini Purse kit. :)

I used Linnie Blooms Canvas Mini Purse, Canvas Fall Leaves, and Burlap.

First I started with the purse:

Then I colored and stamped the leaves.  I also sprayed the burlap for a darker look.

After assembling the leaves on the purse, I  tucked the top jagged edge inside the purse.  I also added a WRMK layered sticker onto a stick pin and stuck it in the leaves.   I tied some Maya Road Paper String around the purse and now it's ready to be filled with nice fall flowers, leaves, etc.
I hope this project inspired you to take a look at more of Linnie Blooms Canvas.

Creative Tote Bag

A cute little tote for my Linnie Blooms projects

Several days ago, I received my Creative Reps kit from Linnie Blooms. It was FULL of wonderful canvas product pieces, some fabric glue and a couple of bottles of spray ink. I can't tell you how excited I was to receive this package! I couldn't wait to get started, except a cold stopped me in my tracks. Oh the post holiday blues!!!

One of my Fly Tribe friends told me about a great canvas tote that she was using to paint designs on and I jumped at the chance to get a few of these for myself. I have a similar one from one of my paint suppliers, so I knew this would be a perfect place to keep all my Linnie Blooms supplies and its a great Grab-N-Go bag.
I started out picking lots of pieces of Linnie Blooms canvas cut outs to place on my tote. So many to choose from! I came up with a couple of design layouts that I liked and I got started on it a few nights ago. I had good luck with drawing on these pieces before with my fine tip Sharpie markers, so I went with that.

I like the fine tip markers best for this product. I am able to get great colors, fine lines and tiny details ~ or I can go big and bold. Very versitile! I started out with my little banner on these triangle pieces to declare my bag a creative place.

Next, I started with the tree and leaf designs and created lots of leaves, textured bark and just played around. I wanted both large and small tress to depict a design with distant and foreground items. Linnie Blooms has good pieces to choose from that offer versatility, making creative ideas easy.
I like how the large tree came out and I had room to add a hollow hole and plenty of leaves in several shades of green. I also played around with the 2 sizes of butterflies and created 2 with playful folk art styling.
A flower became my sun with contour following lines in an ombre color pattern.
My favorite is the arrow piece which I like to turn into a sweet little cottage. I have used this twice so far and each one looks cuter than the last. I like a gingerbread style of house. Maybe I will have one like this some day.
After a dry fitting to be sure the pieces were placed just right, I used Fabric Fusion to glue them into place. It took a bit more glue to make them stick than I first thought, but I like how this glue didn't seep through, discolor the tote itself or become hard and stiff. A little gentle coaxing was all it took to get them to hold in place. Pretty easy and very little mess!
This is the first side I like to call my Creative Home. I want to go back and add more details onto the tote itself and create a little still life. I think some rolling hills, a path to the house and maybe some flowers along the path.
This is the Creative Side of my tote. Again some more details are needed, like antenna for the butterflies, some more Linnie Blooms hand dyed ribbon and maybe even a bit of glitter. A work in progress, and oh so much fun!  I will be proud to carry this around with me!
Check back again soon for updates on this Creative Tote on my blog.
Best wishes,
Linda Kay

Santa's Boots

Santa's Boot Ornament for Linnie Blooms by Linda Kinnaman:
I am enjoying my time working with these Linnie Blooms canvas shapes. They are so easy to work with! It took no time at all until I had a set of  cute ornaments. Plus, at the end of my post is a special discount code to use for a 10% discount and info on a Black Friday – Cyber Monday sale!
Linnie Blooms Stocking
Linnie Blooms Leaf Set
This time I experimented with the Stocking Shape, which is currently on sale for $1.49 ea.  on Linnie Blooms’ website. I also used 2 of the Fall Leaf Set leaves that looked a bit like holly leaves to me, and some of Linnie BloomsTextures.
Linnie Blooms Texture
I gathered my supplies: some craft paint in black, white and green, a small brush, a scrap of ribbon, some floral berries on wire, thread, needle and scissors.
Linnie Blooms Stocking and Leaf
First, I painted the canvas shapes with a quick coat of paint. I made a messy scallop for the cuff of the boot with the white paint. After they dried, I put them under a couple of books to flatten out as they started to curl after I painted them. Overnight was enough to take care of that.
I hand stiched some of the Textures along the cuff creating puckers and puffs as I went. I wasn’t too careful about it and let the textures find their own place. A few snips of ragged edges was all it took to clean them up.
Santa's Boots Ornaments
Next I poked a hole into the top of each leaf and the boot and placed the wired berries through to the back. A quick twist of the wire on the back secured these little berries. I stiched the ribbons onto the back for a hanger and that was all it took.
Pretty cute, aren’t they?!? Think how nice they would look on your tree, as a gift to someone special or as a package tag. You could write “To:” and “From:” on the back easily and maybe even include a nice note.

To purchase the canvas shapes, please go to the Linnie Blooms website link below and be sure to use the codeLB2013LK at check out and you will receive a 10% discount off your order!

Plus ~ Now through Cyber Monday, many items are 1/2 off!

What a HOOT!

by Kelly Hoernig for Linnie Blooms

When asked to create a fall piece out of the wonderful Linnie Blooms canvas shapes, I set out to make a home décor item that you could use with your favorite photo or quote. For years I have collected headlines and words out of magazines and that is what I used for my quote. I love how it incorporates a great sentiment without going overboard. It complements the simplicity of the owl beautifully and I couldn’t have found a more perfect word. I used an old Tinker Toy as the word holder adding nostalgia and a vintage quality to the art.
The background is a paper napkin that I have decoupaged to a piece of 2x4 wood. I enhanced it by adding the dark trees because I wanted a little more contrast. The little hootie needed to grab your attention so I gave her eyelashes and a charming antique button with a lot of detail to look like chest feathers. I loved the addition of the various leaves and having them placed around the top edge really makes they stand out. They also break the shape of the wood block making people wonder what the piece is created on.

So, what are you waiting for? Imagine what your sweet HoOT will look like and I do hope you will share what you create! Enjoy.
